Woman Claps Back at Hate for Eating With Baby in Carrier—'Veteran Mom Move'

A woman has shared how she manages to indulge without disturbing her baby has gone viral on TikTok. During the clip, Adriana Iusan, 28, whose username is @adrianayooshan, can be seen sitting at a table with $75 worth of sushi on it. The ER nurse wears a baby carrier with her son in it, and then places a napkin over her chest. The on-screen text reads that this is to prevent any fish from dropping onto the 9-week-old's head. This simple technique has gained a lot of attention online, racking up more than 1.2 million views since it was posted on July 8.

The Buford, Georgia-based mom told Newsweek: "When people say 'put him down,' I did not have anywhere. I didn't want to take up a lot of room with our huge stroller. "Having him in the carrier was perfect because I was able to nurse him while we walked to the restaurant and then he was asleep the whole time we were there. I was also hands-free and could eat and help with my 2-year-old." Iusan added that her son usually wakes up when she takes him out of the carrier. She said: "The same type of person that comments on this is the same type of person to roll their eyes when they hear a baby crying in a public place or when they see a mother nursing their child." "I am incredibly grateful for my carrier and do not know how I could go about day without it." Iusan said: "When I have my baby in a carrier, no one can tell that I'm nursing. I don't need to cover myself or turn my back to people. Carrying my baby allows me to be hands-free to care for my toddler and, in some situations, it's the safer option." At the time of writing, the video has received over 80,000 likes and more than 470 comments. One user wrote: "I dropped so much food on my daughters head when I was baby wearing I just picked it off and kept going." Another posted, "Knowing my mom she'd just lick it off my head like it's the most normal thing in the world," and a third commenter wrote: "A veteran mom move." Statista says that the buckle baby carrier business is booming and was worth around $2.23 billion in 2018. By next year, it is forecast to increase to around $2.92 billion. This may not surprise moms like Iusan who swear by them, and she praises the baby carriers for being a great tool for nursing, too. If you have a family dilemma, let us know via life@newsweek.com.
