A dog that genuinely likes his owner's boyfriend still needs to remind him who comes first in her affections. Dog owner Maxime van den Dijssel, who is known on TikTok as @maximevdd, said in a video last week that her golden retriever, Peanut, isn't quite used to her having a boyfriend. Before the boyfriend came into the picture, the dog was the only one who got all her attention. Peanut is learning to make room for the owner's partner, whom he seems to like, but sometimes the boyfriend gets too close for comfort. "Funnily enough, my dog actually really likes him," Van den Dijssel told Newsweek via TikTok. "He just really doesn't like it when he gets near me." In the clip, Peanut is sprawled on the bed between Van den Dijssel and her boyfriend, showing he is "not adjusting well" to the couple sharing a bed. With a serious look, the dog stared at the boyfriend. He couldn't believe the boyfriend dared to ruin the cuddle session he used to have with his owner. The couple couldn't stop laughing at Peanut's seriousness. The boyfriend even tried making Peanut loosen up by poking his nose, but the dog was not having it. No amount of annoyance could prompt Peanut to leave his rightly deserved spot on the bed. The caption reads: "He must be middle spoon always."
Van den Dijssel said Peanut squeezing himself between her and her boyfriend is nothing new. He positions himself in a way that separates them, whether sitting between the couple on the couch or standing in the way when they're trying to hug. He's always reminding the newcomer who came into Van den Dijssel's life first. "I think he just gets jealous the attention isn't on him," Van den Dijssel said. Peanut's determination to keep the couple apart quickly went viral on TikTok, bringing in over 3.9 million views, 706,100 likes and 1,682 comments as of Wednesday. "Dog pov: Sir, I'm not sure what your intentions are, but mine are to stop them,'" said one viewer. Another wrote: "He's looking at you like 'One of us has to move and it's not gonna be me.'" Someone jokingly suggested: "You should get him his own bed! You and the dog can have more space that way!"
