A cat owner who heard unusual, loud voices in the middle of the night was left speechless when he got out of bed to investigate and discovered the culprit. Liam Maguire of Australia awoke to someone loudly talking at 3 a.m. Groggy and confused, he couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from and nervousness started creeping in. His caption on the February 6 TikTok video posted to the account @liamtmaguire stated that the experience was "actually terrifying." "I live in a busy area," Maguire told Newsweek via TikTok. "So I woke up thinking someone was yelling in the street maybe because I was quite disorientated." But when the sound wasn't stopping, Maguire went out of his room to pinpoint the sound. He quickly learned the noise was coming from inside the house, making him "a bit unsettled." That feeling instantly went away once he realized what happened. His cat was up watching late-night television.
In last week's video, Maguire filmed himself walking toward the noise. The entire hallway was dark. But the noise of "someone talking really loudly," and a light at the end of the hallway, guided him to the living room, where he found his black cat sitting on the couch next to the television remote. "...when I came out and saw my cat, I honestly started laughing," he said. His cat somehow managed to turn on the television with the remote. Whether intentional or not, the cat sat there enjoying the show, and when Maguire came out, she seemed irritated. Maguire had interrupted a critical part of the workout video. "I filmed it to show my housemates but only rewatched it in the morning," he said. "It was only at that point I even realized she was watching some kind of workout video."
The TikTok video amassed more than 4.2 million views within a week. While the clip left viewers cracking up, many weren't surprised about this cat's late-night shenanigans. "The way the cat just looks at you as if to say 'Shouldn't you be in bed?'" commented one user. Another joked: "Shh. His show's on." Feeling the owner's pain, a third wrote: "I know your heart was beating so fast too." Someone else said: "I'm positive he accidentally sat/stepped on the remote, but the thought of him deliberately turning on his shows is hilarious."
