A mom has revealed how her young son's interest in the vacuum cleaner has turned into a full-blown obsession.
It's not unusual for children to develop an intense obsession with a particular toy or subject matter. In fact, research suggests it may even be a sign of high intelligence.
A 2008 study published in the journal Cognitive Development, for example, found that children who developed an intense fascination with dinosaurs could be capable of exhibiting greater intellect.
This intense interest was linked with improved attention, more effective information processing and more complex thinking. The study suggested it wasn't just dinosaurs either—an obsessive interest with any topic could be of similar benefit.
That will likely be music to the ears of Kay Davina, a mom living in the Midlands area of the U.K. with her young son, Lorenzo who has developed a special interest in vacuum cleaners of every shape and size.
Davina said it all began a few months back when she started tidying up the house more. "I started going clean crazy," Davina told Newsweek. "At first, the noise scared him, but eventually he started to like watching me clean up and would bring me the vacuum crying then I got him a couple of toy ones and the rest is history."
The extent of Lorenzo's love of vacuums was laid bare in a video posted to TikTok by Davina, under the handle _kaydavina, showing the toddler watching a video of a woman vacuuming on YouTube, while sitting alongside both a toy vacuum and a real one.
"Does your toddler have a crazy obsession?" Davina asked in the on-screen caption. "Considering sending mine to rehab for his Hoover addiction." The clip then cuts to Lorenzo standing up, attempting to vacuum around the couch while the video of the woman sucking up feathers and other debris continues to play on the television.
