The moment an owner giving their dog a popular treat backfired has left the internet in stitches.
In a video posted on Instagram by user @walnut_and_woad, the footage shows the moment rescue dog Iona's owner gave her a pup cup, with hilarious consequences.
With more than 6 million views, the video captured the moment Iona's owner opened the car door to offer the pup a portion of a froyo cup.
But in one swift motion, Iona seized the entire cup, devouring it with such gusto that she ingested the paper cup along with the yogurt treat.
Bewildered by what just happened, the owner says, "You weirdo, we love you," through laughs.
Alongside the video the owner said in the caption: "I thought it would be cute to give her some froyo!!! Luckily it was just a super flimsy paper cup and she seems to be fine."
It isn't advised for dogs to eat paper, even in small amounts. While paper itself isn't toxic, it can result in blockages and other issues that could cause more serious health issues.
The popular "pup cup" treat usually consists of whipped cream, frozen yogurt or soft serve ice cream that is safe for dogs to eat. Often sold by food chains and cafés, they have become increasingly popular in recent years.
