Rescue Dog Has Unusual Way of Showing Happiness at Treats: 'Sound On'

A rescue dog's unusual, yet adorable, reaction to eating treats has shown viewers that the little things in life mean the world to pets. Saber, a greyhound and husky mix, was bred and trained to be a sled dog for three to four years, but when it did not work out, he was surrendered to the Happy Valley-Goose Bay SPCA in Canada. While living there, Saber grew attached to other dogs in the shelter, only then to become anxious as routines shifted and other dogs got adopted. The 6-year-old's forever family finally came around and adopted Saber in April 2023, and since then, he has been given all the love and treats in the world. One would think he would be used to getting spoiled at this point, but he isn't.

A November 13 TikTok video, which was posted to the account @the_house_pack, shows Saber's unique way of expressing his happiness while eating. Despite being safe and sound in his forever home, Saber still cannot believe his storybook ending. Even something as simple as a dog treat means the world to him. Some TikTokers were quick to point out that Saber's tail was tucked firmly between his legs, a sign that he might be anxious or scared. The creator said the reason why he eats this way was because he was abused for about three to four years. "...He only makes these noises with new food or his favourites like this fish/ chicken pate," the comment read. "We are working with him to show him feeding time and food is safe."

They took Saber to the vet several times to check that the sound he was making wasn't due to pain. Instead, the sound is his way of expressing big emotions. Saber will even make high-pitched sounds when his owners come home. "It's like he's so happy and scared to death at the same time. Bawled. Thank you for loving him," one TikTok user said. Another viewer added: "It's like he savors every bite and releases small bouts of his barely pent-up pleasure."

Happy Dog Sounds

Dogs have a variety of sounds and barks that can express all of their emotions. While some viewers thought Saber's high-pitched screaming was a sign of stress, it was him showing how happy he was. The difference between the screams is in how they're portrayed. A high-pitched sound that rises is typically an indicator of stress, according to pet care company Wag. A constant high-pitched sound, or one that drops in pitch, means positivity and excitement. Distinguishing the sounds will help you fulfill your dog's needs.
